The MDER â€“ Mission de DÃ©veloppement Economique Regional PACA
The MDER is the economic development agency for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
The MDER’s four major tasks are:
Promote the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region’s economy
â–º Perform sectoral studies on the regional economy,
â–º Contribute to drawing up the regional economic development strategy, in partnership with the development agencies in the Départements
â–º Develop the various clusters: 11 competitive clusters within the region, PRIDES (Regional clusters for innovation and mutually supportive economic development), business clusters etc.
â–º Enhance the range of human resources, using PACA Mode d’Emploi, a specially dedicated organisation, under the auspices of the MDER.
Contribute to business relocation in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur
â–º As the regional branch of the Invest in France Agency (IFA), process planning applications from businesses,
â–º Financial engineering for business relocation,
â–º Draw up promotion/marketing campaigns with the development agencies in the Départements.
Support regional major initiatives
â–º Support current key projects and projects for structural economic changes,
â–º Lead and coordinate the participants in the promotion of the region through ITER and renewable energy projects: Welcome Office for International Companies - WOIC.
Contribute to development and commodity chain structuring
â–º Support the structuring of the key business sectors in the region: provide statistics and maps of the participants, provisional piggy-back exporting (e.g.: the yachting, water-environment, fashion and clothing sectors),
â–º Administer the club for regional member businesses,
â–º Forward thinking, business intelligence and experimentation.
The MDER is a unique Government - Regional Council – Businesses partnership:
· The body was created in November 2001
· Chairman: Jean-François BIGAY, former managing director of Eurocopter
· Officers: seven members including five representatives from the business community
· About forty member businesses
The Government and the Regional Council are also involved in a regional innovation strategy, based on the idea of a sustainable Mediterranean and a creative economy (see www.pacainnovation.com) and encouraging businesses in the region to use competitive intelligence (see www.intelligence-economique-paca.fr)
